We drove down from the North Side last Sunday to check out The Big Easy brunch. The food was great even though this new place had a few service snafus.
Tonight they rocked.
Three of us entered about 7, the place was full, the New Orleans jazz was up and after only a 10 minute wait we were seated.
A sweet guy quickly approached us, a U of C college student, said he'd be taking care of us and returned with come delicious corn muffins and honey butter. A couple of minutes later an older guy ran over (the owner, it turned out) and cut a hudge wedge of a yellow braided bread they bake there. He dropped it in our bread basket and wished us a pleasant experience.
We ordered Louisiana Crab Cakes and Fried Green Tomatoes to share.....both excellent, especially the Crab Cakes with remoulade sauce.
I had tried the stuffed Jamabalaya last weekend and had to get my fix again, so we split three entrees: the Jambalaya, Crawfish Etoufee, and Blackened Cajun Salmon. Each dish was first rate, as were the side dishes of bourbon mashed sweet potatoes, Cajun rice and red beans.
The place is also a bakery, so we split the 6 layer banana monkey cake and the chocolate cappuccino mousse pie....please save me Jesus, they were a gift from the Gods.
The difference between last week and this was, somehow, their service was more on the ball. I guess, being open only a few weeks, they had to get their act together.
Tonight they had it all covered.
If only they'd open in Logan Square!
